Atticus Lately

So here's some updates on Atticus and a whole bunch of pictures.

He's constantly got his tongue out and the further he has it out, the happier he is.

He can point to his hair, belly button, nose, ears, teeth, and eyes.

He makes the sounds for lion, fish, bunny, and elephant.  His elephant is the best.  He does the trunk by covering his mouth and nose with his hand and then he blows raspberries.  He can point out any bunny he sees whether real or horribly drawn and makes his sniffing bunny noise.

He loves books.  He constantly brings them to us and crawls in his our laps for us to read to him.  He also reads to himself, turning pages and babbling.

He says fish, hi, bye, Atticus, dad, Jerry, wow,  sometimes mom, and he makes the F sound for flower.

He loves fish, dogs and flowers.  He gets super excited and growls.

He growls at everything.  Especially when he is excited.

He is very brave and goes down the slide sitting up.

He's a turd when it comes to walking.  He's been able to walk okay for about two months (still the cute baby walk) but he refuses to most the time or clings to our hands.  Every once and a while he'll pop up and walk across the room like it's nothing.  If he's on a surface, like grass, that he hates he still won't walk just crawls like Mowgley.  Of course now that I wrote this, this morning he hasn't stopped walking all day.  Weirdy.

He gets super focused on things.  Sometimes nothing I do can distract him from driving his graham crackers around his high chair tray.

The count still holds at 4 teeth.

He talks on the phone.  Or anything he thinks is a phone, like the small speakers for our tv.  He holds it behind his head and jabbers.

He helps make smoothies every morning.  He sits on the counter and puts everything in for me.  He always tastes the banana first and drinks from the yogurt container

He loves to wrestle.  He screams and attacks and hides.  We have fun.

He would stay outside all day if I let him.  We have to use the Spanish word for outside so he doesn't have a melt down.

He is a bit of a turd.  When we tell him no he often laughs or he whines and waits until we aren't looking and then does exactly what we said no about.  There are a few things he knows he's not supposed to do and he'll shake his head no and then do it anyway.

He can be very temperamental, giggling and laughing and then having melt-downs then right back to giggling.

He likes to cover his ears and sing.

He often lays down in tub and swims around or on his back so he can listen to sounds underwater.

He's a master mimicker.  He winks at us (blinks both eyes), gargles and spits with us when we brush teeth, he puts curlers in his hair and puts my eyelash curler to his eyes, coughs when we cough, smells flowers, blows on his pinwheel, etc

He can find birds, dogs, fish, trains, bunnies, and cars, in any picture real or illustrated.

When he's done with his food he puts his cup in his bowl.  He also loves to drive/fly his food around.
Catching dust
He loves to take all of his clothes out of his drawer, put them in his laundry basket, push it around, then put his clothes away again.
He loves snuggling.
This is him loving on Knicole, spelled like knife.
He's a very good independent player.  This is his fort behind the couch.
He's obsessed with the vacuum.  This is him helping.
 Love.
 Bowl on the head.
This was the day he learned how to point to his nose.
 I want to keep him.
Growling out the door at the rain.
 Eating some yogurt.
The snot following the melt down.
Hair.  This is for his future embarrassment.
 Tongue.
He likes to color.
Trying to put on his shoes.
Just hanging out.  On a box.
So big!

Tales of First Grade Part VI

Just some funny things to come out of my student's mouths recently

"Vietnam must not be curious because they don't have modern conveniences."  (We were learning about inventions and curiosity)-KP

Me-"Abraham Lincoln made mistakes but then became the president."
Student- "Ya and then he got shot"

This was in another class but there were two kids who were fighting with each other so much that they were sent to the principal's office.  This scared them so bad that they held hands on the way.

I have a student who loves to dance and his dancing is slightly odd.  There was music playing so of course he began dancing.  Another student saw this, looked at me and said- "Well that's weird"-TG

"How did Lincoln grow his beard so fast?"

"It's the 19th?  It feels like it has to be at least the 20th." HW

"My mom and dad got a avorce and then my dad and his girlfriend got in a fight cause he pulled the girlfriend's son's hair for smoking."

"I watched this movie where the man got stoned for speaking unto God.  Was that in the olden days?" KM

Boy 1 (Who happens to be Jewish)-"Holidays are like Christmas and Easter and Hanukkah."
Boy 2 (Who is not Jewish)-"I hate Hanukkah!  I never get anything for Hanukkah!"

"If she's using people's old clothes to make a blanket then the people are probably dead." KM

"Ghosts are scary because they live in your towels and in your clothes and then they get into your body and make you walk up the stairs." SG

"Braxten has no teeth so he can't say his grammars good." TJB

"My teacher is in love with me!" (After I told my class I loved them) GM

I told a student he was a turd and when I asked him if he knew what that was, he excitedly responded: "A bastard!" BW

One Year Photo Shoot

As we are all aware, I post nothing of interest on here except a million pictures of my kid.  I'm cool with it if you are.  We got his pictures taken for his birthday and I am obsessed with them.  I am also obsessed with the photographers.  We got them done at Fotofly in Draper.  They have the best setup, they were super cheap, like crazily cheap, and I loved all the pictures.

We got them taken the Monday after his birthday, which also happened to be the day after Atticus slammed his face on the coffee table.  You can see his bruised lip in only a couple of the pictures and his puffy eye had mostly gone down by his appointment as well.  He was very happy that day.  Not that you can tell in any of his pictures.  When it came to those, he was a very serious man.  Literally the photographer was doing all she could to make him smile, she'd tickle him and use squeaky balls and what not.  He wouldn't break a smile.  He wouldn't even move except to follow whatever toy she was holding with his eyes.  My mother, who was an amazing help that day, (except when she dumped pureed plums on him right as we pulled up to the studio...  It's alright, it came right off.) thought this was especially hysterical.  Every single picture was great.  I bought tons of prints (at 4 bucks a sheet I couldn't help it) even though the insanely inexpensive price I'd paid included the copyright cd.  And now don't know what to do with them all.  But you get to look at them.
Serious Kid.
I was tickling his feet to get the smile.  Had to have one with lamby.
You can barely see his lip bruise in the corner.
These ones he was crawling toward the photographer and would always start smiling and laughing right when he moved out of the range of her lighting.  He would also smile as soon as she'd put the camera down.
This is one she was pulling out all the stops for a smile and this is how he looked at her.
These two he was looking at me and playing.
I made him this doofy little outfit and I love it.  And yes, he is that skinny.  Second percentile after all.
 Pout.
I think this is a cool effect.
Props to my mom on this one.  She was sitting over to the side while the photographer was taking the picture above and he was peeking at her like this.  So my mom had the photographer come over.  I think it's perfect.
He mostly just liked to paint with the frosting.
This one doesn't look anything like him but I think his expression is so funny.
Still serious.  Even with a faceful of sugar
Painting the floor.  The people at the studio wouldn't hear of my mom cleaning it up (I was in the bathroom cleaning him up) afterward.  They did it all themselves.
 Love it.
In case you hadn't yet picked up on it, I loved these pictures and I will definitely be going back to Fotofly.  Maybe next time he'll be slightly more amused.

Happy Birthday!

Atticus had a birthday.  Love the kid.  He and I were up before seven and hung out together then we finally went and woke up his daddy so he could open his presents.  It was a pretty low key day.  We just played and loved on Atticus.  We went out to dinner that night at Olive Garden and Atticus couldn't get enough of my frozen raspberry lemonade.  He's like his grandmother that way...  And then so sweetly, someone anonymously picked up our tab.  Warm fuzzies.

We threw him a party the next night at my parent's house.  I wasn't one of those trending crazy moms who go insane over a birthday party for a one year old.  We did it at my parent's so that everyone wouldn't have to trek up here.  Atticus had both sets of grandparents there as well as Grandma and Grandpa Great, Granny and Jenny, and Grandma Stella and Alvin.  My sister Stefanie and her five youngest kids came, Dan's sister Natalie and her family came.  Plus there was Sheri, Sam, and Jimmy.

The kid had fun and now has more toys than I think I may have ever owned.  He definitely has more cute outfits than me.  He got to stay up way passed his bed time and the sleepier he gets toward bedtime, the more hyper he gets.  On top of that, Granny would not stop feeding him ice cream.  So the kid was wired.  Then to end the night and get rid of all his guests, Atticus attempted to steal some more cake from the coffee table and instead slipped and slammed his mouth and then his eye into the coffee table.  Over-tired/stimulated, sugared-up, baby with a bleeding mouth, produces a lot of screaming.  He screamed until everyone left and then he fell to sleep.  He woke up the next morning with a bruised lip and one eye puffy, but he was happy as could be.
Loving some presents
 So thrilled about clothes
Okay, I love this lawnmower we got him.
He was checking out the balls popping as he pushed.
Oh, and apparently my kid never wears pants.
 Playing with the gadgets.
He refuses to actually walked with it.  He'll push it on his knees.
I love this picture.  Again, not dressed.
 Opening presents at his party
 Love his face.
 His Jenny card
He's out of focus but I love the way he's looking at his dad.
Cake!
Granny shoveling ice cream in his mouth.
He loves when his cute cousin Eli dances for him
 Showing off his age.
Tate trying to get him to cooperate and play with his toys.
 Cute kid.
He adores his baby cousin Lydia.
This is what getting some kids to cooperate looks like.
Playing on Grandpa's tractor the next day.
