So I've put off working on this blog for a long time because I don't know how to condense this boy into just one post. He is so much more than I'll ever be able to write about and there's so much more I want to remember and tell but I'd rather hang out with him then take the days it would take to write all the funny stories, and brags, and wonderful things about this little boy who has my heart.
So it will just be a series of random facts, stories, quotes, and things I love that I will remember as I go. And I'm guessing it will be very long.
Also, here is his birthday interview:
Some favorite words he says or used to say in this past year: Colory (colorful), Amilal (animal), hide and peek, peeky boo, you feeled me bad (He says this when we make him feel bad. Mostly because he's gotten in trouble), Hippoly hop (Hippity-Hop), doing a science (Picture to come on that one later), doing yogas (What he calls exercising with me), Reprise! (surprise), Addergator (alligator), Nursery House-What he called the church for a while, In a second (I'm drinking) milk. (Or a different word to describe what he was currently busy doing.), Oh, it got dead-how he described death of his toys, bugs, etc, Excuse me, I talking, I need pricey (privacy)-When he's using the bathroom, I nuggle you (snuggle, so sad he says it correctly now.), More-cur for motorcycle, Is it instead of it is. (Is it daddy instead of it is daddy), Baa-pin for Batman
All milk is chwocolate milk-there's just white kind and brown kind.
Some brags (although maybe it's normal for a kid to do between ages two and three) He likes to finish patterns for me, he likes to do very simple addition math stories though he doesn't always get them right. He surprised me one day by saying I had just opened something after Dan had closed it and that that was an opposite. We discovered he totally understood opposites and could identify them correctly for the most part. My favorite was when I asked him the opposite of boy and he say "No boy". We still have no idea where he even learned the word opposite. He's known left from right for a long time but he still calls his feet big foot and little foot. I don't know if his left or his right is the big foot.
He went through a Daniel Tiger and Thomas the train phase. He doesn't get a whole lot of screen time but when he did he wanted to watch one of those. He named all his trains after Thomas characters and his stuffed Mickey Mouse he called Tigey (The name of Daniel Tiger's stuffed Tiger) for months. A few times he even refused to wear pants and underwear because Daniel Tiger only wears shirts. He also went through an obsession with Wall-E and for a while would only respond if we called him Wall-E and he only called me Eva.
He's still a tiny little guy, 13th percentile for both height and weight and he still takes an hour to eat at each meal. (He's 36 inches and 27 pounds)
He's very sweet. He loves to snuggle and "hold you". He adores Jonny and loves to kiss her and make her laugh. He's always so excited just to get a smile from her. The baby voice he uses to talk to her is ridiculously funny and I love it. He also makes sure to take care of Dan and me. And he always thanks me for his meals and he loves to help and clean up.
This story I posted to Facebook a couple weeks ago-
We are going to Disneyland in May and Atticus has been saving all his money (every random piece of change we give him) so that we can go. He loves to count it and get excited about using it for our trip.
This conversation happened at dinner today:
Atticus: Dad you supposed to never go to work again.
Dan: If I don't go to work we won't have any money.
Me: And then we won't have a house and we'll have to live outside.
Atticus: Dad, you can have my Disneyland money. Then you not have to go to work.
We explained that meant we wouldn't be able to go to Disneyland and he was still okay with it.
He loves his dad and is such a sweetheart.
He loves to sing songs and read books. His favorite songs this year have been You Are My Sunshine, I Love To See The Temple, and he just discovered Puff the Magic Dragon and became instantly obsessed.
He loves to do things or show me things and then ask me "Is that cool, mom?"
I avoided taking him out of his crib for as long as possible as he never did figure out how to climb out himself. We transitioned him to a big bed in October, I think and he was so excited he didn't even want a story the first night so he could quickly go to bed. He still thinks he's in a crib however and rarely gets out of bed on his own when he wakes up. He prefers to call/whine to us until we tell him to just get out, or cave and go get him.
He still mostly calls me mama which I love. He calls Dan daddy to everybody unless he's directly addressing Dan, and then he calls him by his name.
When he hears a new word he'll ask me what it means. I love that.
He is obsessed with cars. He could play with his cars for hours. He also does well playing by himself for pretty good stretches of time which is good because he still wakes up well before seven each morning and mom, dad, and Jonny are not cool with being up that early.
I found a couple of great things he's said that I posted to facebook this past year.
(His bedtime prayer one night) "Thank you for Jonny and my mom and dad and why chicken cross the road...That's a joke....Why chicken cross the road is a joke."
When he saw a woman wearing a sleeveless/backless dress on tv and said "Mom, that lady is still a little bit nakey! That so silly but that okay."
This Facebook status from October:
Listening to Atticus in his room having his toys talk to each other is one of my favorite things. "Oh no, what happened?" "I got stuck in this thing. I can't get out." "It will be okay, right?" "Right." "Okay. I'm sorry, I will help you." "Thank you, friend!"
I love listening to him play. He's got a great imagination. Also, he has occasional imagninary friends. Mike Wazowski and Sulley from Monsters Inc. frequently join us for dinner.
He does this thing where if he chooses one thing over another, he'll make sure we know it's not because he doesn't like the other thing. For example, if he chooses a peanut butter and honey sandwich over peanut butter and jelly, he'll say "I still really love jelly". It usually happens when we question his choice (which we do when we're not expecting him to choose what he chose.) I think it is so cute.
He loves to just say nonsense words and inform us he's speaking Spanish. He'll even translate for us.
He loves to look at maps and pictures of the solar system and sapce with his daddy. HE likes to then explain to me on a regular basis about how we have day and night because the earth is spinning and that the moon spins around us.
Random pictures!
Watching some Black Cauldron and pretending to be scared.
He loves ice cream but it's too cold for him. So he only does tiny licks at a slow pace. Most ice cream melts all over him or is finished off by me.
He loves to sit by the river just like his mama.
He refers to rock climbing as "Daddy's mountain work." He literally thinks it's part of Dan's job.
He went through a small pirate phase where he yelled "Arrr, Matey" at many a stranger.
This was just after his second birthday and he was so proud he'd written an "Atticus A" I think it's that orange thing.
It's not called thumbs up. It's called Cowabunga.
He's maybe had three haircuts in the last year...
Halfway through his haircut.
Like to dress himself.
This was in Sun Valley, Idaho for Thanksgiving. This is his "Professor McSnoot face" he likes to make. I don't know where the name came from.
This is him "Doing a science". Dan had recently done little science project with him and a few days later he brought out all his pretend food and stacked them just so and told me he was doing a science.
He is definitely a daddy's boy lately. His daddy is his best friend and he will tell you frequently.
He basically is just a younger version of my little brother, Jameson.
This is him seeing Jonny for the first time. They wouldn't let him come in because it was flu season (So lame!) so he had to view her through the little window. I love this picture. Love it.
This boy is so scared of any holiday decoration or statue coming to life because of this Frankenstein. It came to life and growled at us and then when we were taking this picture its arms moved and poked me in the bum so I freaked out and increased Atticus' fear. He still talks about scary Frankenstein.
He loves to draw pictures of his "Fannily" That's me on the bottom, Dan above my head, Atticus next to Dan and Jonny is the blob on top.
Adores his baby sister. He can't get enough of his baby.
He loves to pretend to be a baby now that Jonny is here.
A little stressed out.
He likes to jump in on all pictures and take care of his Baby Grover. For a while there I had to swaddle Grover each night at bedtime.
Photobomb!
"Look mom! I'm Hedder Potter!"
He had his first trip to the dentist and was so good. They confirmed that his lateral incisors were indeed nonexistent and that they most likely means he won't have those adult teeth either. Goody. I love how stiff he's lying here, trying to hold still. He looks so uncomfortable.
He loves to read to Jonny or to anyone who will listen. I often hear him in his room reading to himself.
The popsicle was too cold for him
Some selfies.
Gets as much out of his watermelon as he can.
Doing some baking.
This is just him being a ham, but he cam over and said, "My tummy is sick. I lay down and stare at wall for while." Then sat like this for about three minutes
Making me some dinner.
We love going for walks in our neighborhood.
This is his first snowman. We didn't actually roll the balls up, we just kind of built it.
