So for our anniversary (in May) Dan got us tickets to go see Wicked. I've listened to the Wicked music, sang some of the songs at vocal performances, knew the basic story of Wicked, but never really cared whether I saw it or not. I have however been told by a million people that once I saw it, I would love it. So I decided we should give it a shot (and told Dan to get me tickets for our anniversary). We got tickets for July 20th and off we went.
We got Sam to babysit the kid even though technically it was my whole family save Jonathan as it was the night of the Bountiful Parade and fireworks. So everyone, including Stefanie was there to coo at him. We actually dropped him off to Sam at the house we grew up in and then Sam and I just wanted to go inside or climb the umbrella tree or something.
Then we had to take Orchard Drive over to 26th South to get away from parade traffic. We were hungry and decided to try this delightfully pink, hole in the wall (literally, there were holes in the walls) burger joint called Best Burger (or something similar) We were the only people in there and there were only two people working. By the looks of it, a mother and her teenage son. They had lovely pictures and poems on the walls which Dan and I read to one another. Like you know those pictures where they dress up little kids to look like adults and they're black and white with a splash of color? Yester-years.... I think that's what they are called. I'm going to find out...Stay tuned...
...Okay I was right and I totally had one of the calendars they make when I was like 10. Do you know what I'm talking about now?
Anyway, I ordered chicken nuggets as that was about the only thing on the menu that was dairy-free so I could eat. And I'm pretty sure that they had just bought the nuggets in the frozen food section of the local Harmon's and stuck them in the microwave. Either that or they battered and fried some sponges... Anyway, it was a lot of fun.
Dan and I doing our dramatic readings. I read the Yesteryear friendship one and his was about the stars and heaven or something. Also, I told you the place was fabulously pink.

When we got to Salt Lake we only parked a couple of blocks away from Capitol Theater but right as we got out of the car a bicycle taxi was going by and so we totally took it to the theater. It was the best thing ever! And our driver was the perfect amount of weirdy.
Riding in the taxi.
Pure awesomeness.
And we made it!
We got in trouble for taking pictures in the theater but then we took another one anyway...
Well anyway, we both loved the show. There were parts I wanted to rewind and watch again. I'm still not in love with the music. I do appreciate the story more now but mostly I just did not expect it to be so funny! Both Glinda and Elphaba were hilarious. I even said that I don't think I would've liked it as much with the original actors and today my friend Petra told me that she's never seen a Glinda as good as the one I saw so that confirmed it. (I think Petra's seen Wicked more than twice.) Oh and pretty sure there was a part that Glinda had to take a minute so she wouldn't laugh after Elphaba says not everyone can travel by bubble. It was fun. So there you have it. I did in fact love it, but now worry that any cast I see after this performance will never live up to this performance. As soon as we left the theater Dan said we should go see it again.
